Random Sampling from Verbos Electronics is a powerful and deeply flexible multi-function random voltage generator and noise source. More than just a random module, it combines fluctuating CV, quantized randomness, analog shift registers, and rich analog noise into one tightly packed creative tool. Whether you're patching generative melodies, percussion timbres, or exploring the outer edges of chaos, Random Sampling is a goldmine for experimentation.

The module features two independent fluctuating random voltage generators, producing continuously changing CVs with variable rate—reaching audio rates for use as tuned noise oscillators. Each of these sections also includes a totally independent random gate output, ideal for rhythmic randomness and unclocked surprises.

In the Quantized Random section, a 6-bit digital system produces stepped random voltages, with variable quantization controlled manually or via CV. Two outputs offer different scaling options: 2ⁿ and n+1, allowing for anything from a handful to dozens of discreet stepped voltages—perfect for random melody creation or CV modulation with constraints.

At the heart of the module is the rarely seen Analog Shift Register (ASR), a multi-stage cascaded sample & hold circuit. At each trigger, voltages are passed from one stage to the next, making it perfect for canonic pitch sequences or evolving signal paths. Each stage of the ASR can be broken out and used independently for individual S&H duties.

To complete the package, Random Sampling includes a trio of analog noise sources—white, pink, and a TR-808-inspired metallic noise—great for percussive textures, layering, or feeding into filters and VCAs for dynamic shaping.
