This course focuses on outcomes rather than a technical syllabus. By the end, you will understand both how to build sounds and why synthesis works, which sets you up to explore with purpose.
Schneiders Keller is the only dedicated space in London where you can learn modular synthesis on real hardware. You will be guided by people who work with these instruments every day.
You will use a wide range of high quality modular
systems and electronic instruments, gaining practical and tactile skills that software alone cannot provide. Our ethos is rooted in community, experimentation and hands on discovery. This course is designed to reflect that spirit.

As well as being a guitarist and pianist, he is a synthesis enthusiast with a particular interest in sampling and sound manipulation.
William Stokes is an educator, researcher and synthesist with extensive experience in teaching electronic sound and music technology. He writes for Sound On Sound magazine, contributes to academic research on electronic music and teaches at City, University of London.
His approach combines clear technical understanding with creative
and accessible guidance, making him an ideal mentor for those taking their first steps into synthesis. He is also a musician and performer in three-piece avant-psych band Voka Gentle. With Voka Gentle he has made records with producers from Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode, Grizzly Bear, Nick Cave) to Sam Petts-Davies (Radiohead, Frank Ocean, Roger Waters).
