Verbos Electronics Bark Filter

The Bark Filter Processor by Verbos Electronics is a powerful 12-band analog filter bank that offers voltage control over every band and envelope follower, making it one of the most dynamic tools for sound shaping, spectral modulation, and vocoding in Eurorack.

Based on the psychoacoustic Bark scale, this module provides twelve perceptually spaced filter bands ranging from sub-100Hz to over 10.5kHz. Each band includes:

• A dedicated fader for manual level adjustment

• CV input for voltage-controlled gain

• Individual audio output

• Individual envelope follower output

All filter bands except the lowest and highest use bandpass filters; the lowest uses a bandpass and the highest a high-pass filter.

At the heart of the Bark Filter is dynamic spectral control, offering two global CV-controlled scanning modes:

• Frequency Scan – sweeps across the bands based on Center and Width parameters

• Spectral Tilt – emphasizes higher or lower frequency bands

For more experimental or practical patching, the module includes two audio inputs (one for odd-numbered bands, one for even) and three summed outputs (Odd, Even, and All). With the ability to route signals independently or in stereo configurations, the Bark Filter can act as:

• A creative filter bank for reshaping full-spectrum sounds

• A real-time spectral modulator using the envelope followers

• A 6-band vocoder, or with two modules, a full 12-band vocoder! haha

Envelope follower decay time is globally adjustable, allowing fine-tuning for percussive or smoother source material.
