The OP–1 Field is a self contained synthesizer, sampler, recorder, and controller designed for sketching, finishing, and performing music anywhere. It keeps the original concept intact while rebuilding almost everything around sound quality, stereo operation, and usability.

The entire signal path now runs in stereo, from synth engines and drum sampler through effects and tape. This change alone reshapes how the instrument behaves. Panning, spatial effects, layered drums, and wide synth patches feel deliberate instead of implied. Recording to tape captures that width without extra routing or workarounds.

Teenage Engineering reworked the physical design for daily use. The slimmer aluminum body feels rigid but light. The glass display sits flush and shows sharper graphics with clearer meters and editing views. The new speaker system, paired with a passive radiator, delivers more low end and volume than you expect from something this size. It works for sound design, casual playback, and quick performance checks without headphones.

Workflow stays immediate. Multiple tape machines and tape styles encourage committing ideas rather than stockpiling takes. Zoomed sample editing and improved envelopes make the sampler faster and more precise. New synth engines, including Dimension, focus on depth and movement instead of novelty. The new Mother reverb favors space and tone over obvious effects.

Connectivity expands how OP–1 Field fits into a modern setup. USB-C handles audio, MIDI, hosting, and charging. Bluetooth MIDI supports wireless control and sync. Built in FM transmission and reception let it communicate with other devices or broadcast audio directly. A 24 hour battery means it stays on and ready for long sessions, travel, and performance days.

OP–1 Field remains opinionated. It limits track counts and editing depth on purpose. In return, it offers speed, focus, and an instrument that rewards hands on interaction rather than menu diving.
