The Shakmat Lancer’s Lash is an 8HP digital snare drum synthesizer. Designed to generate everything from classic drum-machine hits to resonant drum shells and complex digital percussion, it discards static sample playback in favor of seven distinct synthesis models.
Lancer’s Lash approaches snare sound design through seven distinct architectures: Analog (sine wave tone plus noise), Slap, Modal, Physical (vibrating drum heads and shells), FM (metallic strikes and digital claps), Granular (simulating objects sitting on a drumhead), and BLEND (a hybrid sample-layering engine drawing from 1970s funk drum breaks).
Across all seven models, the front panel layout remains consistent: Pitch and Decay manage tuning and envelope length, while Timbre and Color alter the internal balance, noise ratio, or harmonic density of the active engine. Each control parameter is paired with its own dedicated CV input. Following synthesis, each model routes into its own tailored DSP effects stage, ranging from multiband distortion and saturation to lo-fi sampler crunch and compression.
For dynamic performance variation, the onboard trigger-driven randomizer allows users to dial in independent randomization depth for every destination. The randomizer can create subtle hit-to-hit timbre shifts or be pushed to swap synthesis models on incoming triggers. With a 16-bit / 48kHz audio engine, velocity input sampling, 256 preset slots (with CV bank selection and Select Bus recall), 1V/Oct tracking, and microSD preset/firmware management, Lancer’s Lash forms a versatile backbeat engine.
