Originally designed for the Roland System 100M, the RYK M185 has evolved into one of Eurorack’s most versatile and intuitive sequencers. Famous as the direct inspiration behind Intellijel’s Metropolis, the M185 is a powerful performance-oriented step sequencer with unique gate modes, real-time manipulation, and MIDI integration.

The M185 features 8 stages, each with programmable gate behaviour, step repeats, rests, and ratchets. You can easily shape rhythms with gate modes like 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, long, probability, or programmable triggers—ideal for everything from melodic patterns to evolving percussion. The intuitive front panel makes hands-on experimentation a breeze.

With dual channels of CV/Gate, MIDI in/out, and clocking options, the M185 is both a Eurorack powerhouse and a MIDI brain for external gear. Sequence direction can be switched between forward, ping-pong, random, or fixed-length. The sequence itself can be split serially or in parallel (AB mode), enabling complex structures such as polyrhythms or two sequences running simultaneously.

For melodic control, choose from 15 quantisation scales, or work with pure analog CV for microtonal phrasing. Each step supports programmable glide, while per-stage settings offer deep control over timing and dynamics. MIDI-to-CV conversion, velocity programming, and user-upgradeable firmware make the M185 ready for any studio or live setup.
