Music Thing Modular Workshop Cards are proprietary memory expansion cards designed for the Music Thing Modular Workshop System and Workshop Computer. Rather than serving as simple data storage like SD cards, these cards hold the complete flash memory and executable code for the RP2040 microcontroller embedded inside the Workshop Computer module.

Because the Workshop Computer module carries no internal firmware on board, plugging in a Workshop Card provides the host system with its operating firmware and software application. This architecture allows synthesists to completely transform the module's personality, turning it into an oscillator, envelope generator, effect processor, or complex sequencer, simply by swapping cards.

Workshop Cards can be flashed or updated over USB using a standard drag-and-drop interface. They support any programming toolchain compatible with the RP2040 microcontroller, including C/C++ (Pico SDK), Arduino Pico, and CircuitPython. Available in 2MB and 16MB storage configurations, these cards provide an open platform for running official firmware, loading community-developed patches, or building custom code.
