The Make Noise Morphagene is a 20HP dual-channel granular sampler and microsound tape processor designed for real-time audio capture, non-linear slicing, time-stretching, and sound-on-sound overdubbing.
Developed in collaboration with Tom Erbe of Soundhack, the Morphagene combines physical tape-editing concepts with granular synthesis algorithms. Operating at 32-bit / 48kHz resolution, the module captures audio "Reels" up to 87 seconds in length directly to an included microSD card. Captured audio or pre-loaded computer WAV files can be divided into up to 99 discrete "Splices" using the Organize control, allowing for instant rearrangement and non-linear playback.
The granular processing core uses Size and Slide controls to extract micro-acoustic grains ("Genes"), while the Morph parameter layers and staggers these grains to create dense harmonic clouds and time-stretched textures. A flexible Vari-Speed engine provides non-destructive playback speed adjustments, pitch shifting (+12 semitones up to -26 semitones), and reverse playback. Because recording and playback heads function independently, the Morphagene effortlessly supports continuous sound-on-sound overdubbing. Every primary parameter includes a dedicated CV input with bipolar attenuators, accompanied by an integrated envelope follower output and End-of-Splice/Gene (EOSG) trigger outputs to drive external modular hardware.
