Dual Analog Oscillator Core with Integrated Ring Modulator
The Macbeth X-Series Mk2 Dual Oscillator pairs two fully discrete analog oscillator cores with an MC1496-based ring modulator across a spacious 42HP front panel.
This module delivers raw, vintage analog voice generation using discrete transistor topologies inspired by 1970s synth designs. Built as a primary sound source for complex subtractive patches, it houses two independent oscillators featuring dedicated linear FM inputs, cross-modulation routing, and multi-turn precision tuning pots that eliminate the need for secondary fine-tune controls.
In operation, the module offers exceptional low-end weight and dynamic flexibility. Each oscillator voice provides simultaneous sine, triangle, saw, and square wave outputs, alongside two dedicated sub-octave divider taps for extreme low-end reinforcement. The onboard ring modulator utilizes the classic MC1496 balanced multiplier chip, generating thick, metallic sidebands and inharmonic timbres when multiplying the two internal cores or external audio sources. An integrated noise generator mixes white and pink noise streams directly from the front panel.
With its 42HP width and large, solid knobs, the module demands substantial rack real estate. However, that physical footprint repays your system with uncompromised thermal tuning stability, precise tracking across multiple octaves, and an un-cramped interface optimized for live performance.
