This complete synthesis backend combines an input mixer, resonant low-pass filter, twin envelopes, and a discrete VCA into a single tactile module.

The Macbeth X-Series Mk2 Backend Filter converts raw oscillator signals into finished synth patches without requiring extra utility modules. Built around discrete transistors and hand-selected components, it provides the core audio path of a classic subtractive synthesizer in a spacious layout.

Instead of patching separate filter, VCA, and envelope generator modules, this unit manages signal routing internally. The input section features a dedicated discrete amplifier that pushes synth levels into soft overdrive. Twisting the feedback control introduces harmonic saturation before the signal hits the low-pass filter stage. Two built-in envelopes route directly to the filter cutoff and VCA levels, keeping patch cables free for external modulation.

During live performance, large panel controls and widely spaced knobs allow precise frequency shaping without disrupting adjacent settings. The module pairs natively with dual oscillator setups, but acts equally well as an analog processing station for drum submixes or external hardware inputs.
