L.E.P - Leploop V3

Leploop V3 is a standalone analog groovebox built around raw sound generation, hands-on routing, and an intentionally unstable sequencer. It expands on the original design with more inputs, more modulation access, and a fully reworked PCB, while keeping the core behaviour intact.

The sound engine centres on two VCOs, noise, and the Cassa, a distorted bass drum voice with hard attack and heavy saturation. VCO1 offers selectable waveforms. VCO2 supports FM from VCO1, envelope 1, or the LFO, with optional ring modulation. A mixer lets you combine and route these sources before they hit the rest of the system. The oscillators accept extensive modulation, including inverted envelope shapes and external CV, which makes small adjustments feel dramatic and physical.

Modulation comes from two attack decay envelopes, a multi-wave LFO, a sample and hold circuit, and a four-track sequencer. Switches route these sources across the instrument rather than fixed paths, so the workflow encourages exploration instead of recall. The sequencer uses a switched capacitor design and slowly loses its settings over time. This limitation stays intentional. Patterns drift, disappear, and reappear differently, which rewards live interaction rather than preset thinking.

A 24 dB lowpass filter with resonance processes noise, the oscillator mix, the Cassa, or external audio. You can modulate both cutoff and resonance. Two VCAs shape the signal further. VCA1 supports multiple modulation sources and selectable linear or exponential response. VCA2 stays tied to envelope 2 and focuses on tighter articulation. A dedicated final mixer balances the VCAs, filter, and Cassa into a single output.

Leploop V3 works best as a self-contained performance instrument or as a modulation-rich sound source alongside other hardware. The added CV and gate connections make it easier to integrate, but the instrument still favours improvisation over precision.
