Algorithmic stereo sound generation with a focus on playability
VHIKK X is a digital sound generation and processing module built around algorithms and wavetable oscillators. It combines a sound generator and a sound processor in a single stereo signal path, creating anything from slow, evolving drones to dense chords, basses, noise, and fractured digital textures.
The left side handles sound generation. Algorithms shape wavetable oscillators through a small set of carefully chosen parameters that encourage exploration without demanding technical knowledge. Warp, Span, Morph, and Fuse cover cross modulation, detuning, and broader timbral shifts. These controls respond musically across programs, even though their exact behavior changes with the selected algorithm. A combined lowpass and highpass filter, labeled Field, sits at the end of the generator and helps define space and weight.
The right side processes the sound. A dry wet control and feedback form the core, with additional parameters that bend frequency, smear time, or destabilize the signal. Two dual function encoders extend control over pitch, amplitude, delay, and internal variation. Clear labeling and illuminated indicators make it obvious what you are editing, keeping interaction direct even when the sound becomes complex.
VHIKK X uses algorithm selection rather than menus. Two switches select one of nine algorithms, and a bank button switches between four banks for a total of 36 programs. Each program offers a distinct response while keeping the panel layout consistent. Forge Time plans to expand the available banks over time, extending the module without changing how it feels to play.
The module includes a true stereo input as well as a stereo output. External signals can pass through the same processor section used by the internal generator, making VHIKK X equally useful as a sound source or a stereo effects processor. LED strips provide immediate visual feedback of signal levels across the stereo field.
VHIKK X functions as a complete voice thanks to its internal stereo VCA. It works well on its own, but the many CV inputs invite interaction with the rest of a modular system. Modulation brings the algorithms to life and pushes the sound into unstable, evolving territory. The design favors hands on exploration, rewarding movement and modulation rather than precise programming.
