The Demon Box by Eternal Research converts electromagnetic fields (EMF) into three channels of audio, control voltage, and MIDI data.

Instead of filtering out electrical interference, the instrument captures magnetic signals from nearby electronics, power supplies, and motorized devices using an array of three inductors. Rather than quantizing incoming data to a strict grid, the internal engine converts field fluctuations into rapid streams of MIDI notes and CC values at fixed rates of 15, 33, and 57 notes per second.

Moving objects across the inductors alters the harmonic structure and signal output across three distinct channels. Dedicated parameter knobs allow you to blend raw inductor signals with external line-level audio. A triphonic output blends all three channels into a spatialized stereo field, while three individual CV outputs send matching voltage movements directly to Eurorack modules.

The Demon Box integrates directly into modular rigs, hardware synths, DAWs, and visual performance tools via USB-C and 5-pin MIDI connections. Routing external audio into the unit modulates outgoing CV and MIDI values, turning the box into a reactive bridge between audio hardware and real-time visual software.
