Eowave Quandrantid Swarm – Experimental Touch Synthesizer with Filters, Reverb & Sequencer
The Quandrantid Swarm is a unique desktop synthesizer tailored for adventurous musicians and sound designers. Combining a digital oscillator, analog filters, touch control, modulation tools, and a spring reverb, this synth excels at creating deep, evolving textures and unexpected sonic character.
At its core is a digital waveform generator with eight synthesis modes: Organ, Strings, Drone, Noise, Grains, Perc, Metal, and Chiptune. Each mode responds uniquely to parameter changes, and the Spread control multiplies waveforms up to eight voices in sequencer mode. The Character knob alters specific traits per mode, offering tailored sound design flexibility.
An additional percussion voice is tuned to the main oscillator's fundamental and modulated by a shared decay envelope. This allows for the creation of rhythmically linked textures, from soft ambient blips to metallic hits and digital claps.
The internal mixer blends three sources: oscillator, percussion, and an external input — with the third input pre-routed as feedback to the spring reverb, offering natural overdrive. The signal then passes through two analog 12 dB filters, inspired by Eowave's Fluctuations Magnétiques — the first switchable between high- and low-pass, the second low-pass only. Used together, they form a wide, dynamic bandpass.
Modulation is handled by a snappy AD envelope (pre-patched to filter 1 and the VCA) and a versatile LFO with 7 selectable waveforms (pre-patched to filter 2). The LFO’s speed affects the noise output, and it includes a square wave output for clocking duties. A slew limiter with attenuator is also included for smoothing CV signals.
An analog spring reverb adds vintage depth and texture to the sound. It features a dedicated input (normalled from the VCA out) and a modulation input for dynamic control over reverb level — and can be used as a standalone effect unit with other gear.
Connectivity includes CV, gate, clock and reset inputs, as well as MIDI input via included 3.5mm adapter, making it equally at home in Eurorack, DAW-based, or standalone setups.
