The Doepfer A-198-2 is a modern, digital evolution of the classic Trautonium-style ribbon controller, combining fluid continuous performance with onboard scale quantization and dynamic parameter feedback.

The A-198-2 consists of a 6HP Eurorack control module paired with a 50cm position- and pressure-sensitive manual ribbon strip. Moving a finger along the strip generates dual control pairs: CV1 and Gate1 map to position and note triggers, while CV2 and Gate2 translate pressure into expressive modulation states such as filter cutoffs or VCA levels.

Driven by an upgraded digital processor and crisp OLED display, the A-198-2 features nine user-programmable scale quantizations visualized via a virtual keyboard interface. Quantization and retriggering can be toggled manually or automated dynamically in real time using external CV/gate inputs. The system allows complete non-volatile parameter customization, including 5-step position ranges (1–5 octaves), 7-step pressure scaling, programmable offset voltages, pressure gate thresholds, and optional MIDI output for standard Note On/Off and Aftertouch data.
