A space-saving dual envelope and LFO generator designed for versatile modulation in 1U system rows.

The Doepfer A-142-5 packs two independent Attack/Decay envelope and function generators into a compact 1U utility format. Each channel features a dedicated decay control covering times from snappy 2ms bursts up to 2-second decay tails. Flipping the dedicated loop switch transforms either channel into a free-running LFO, giving you instant access to low-frequency modulation for pitch vibrato, filter sweeps, or pulse-width changes.

Beyond standard envelope and LFO duties, the A-142-5 excels at dynamic modulation switching. Applying a gate signal over +3.5V to the VCL (Voltage Control Loop) input forces the channel into LFO mode automatically, allowing external sequencers or logic modules to switch between single-shot envelopes and repeating LFO cycles on the fly. Normalled trigger inputs trigger both channels simultaneously from a single cable, while gate inputs in LFO mode superimpose incoming pulses onto the running LFO wave for unusual rhythmic contours.
