Algorithmic Four-Layer Generative Synthesizer

The RND Synth uses a single-button interface to instantly generate four-layer musical arrangements using eight internal synthesis engines driven by Euclidean sequencers.

Designed in collaboration with artist Bambounou, this instrument removes conventional knob-per-function controls in favor of rapid algorithmic generation. Pressing its main control button generates four distinct instrument tracks—drawn from subtractive, FM, acid, noise, speech, Karplus-Strong, supersaw, and additive engines—and sets their Euclidean rhythms, timbres, and polyphony within a chosen musical scale.

In operation, the instrument functions as an immediate generative ideas machine. You define the tonic key and scale from 20 onboard options, then trigger random iterations until a compelling patch emerges. While the main button generates instant throwaway arrangements, deep MIDI integration lets you override individual layers, record multi-track audio over USB-C, or send the four Euclidean sequence channels out to drive external hardware synths.

Because the system operates entirely without preset memory or sequence recall, an arrangement vanishes forever once you press the main button again. Committing memorable patches to a DAW or audio recorder in real time is essential to working with its ephemeral design.
