Standalone Dual 8-Bit Digital Delay, Looper & Quantussy Chaos Synthesizer
The Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus is an experimental sound processor, digital looper, and chaotic synthesizer designed by Peter Blasser. Encased in solid hardwood with an esoteric layout, the instrument pairs two independent discrete 8-bit digital delay/looper engines ("Obelisks") with a central five-oscillator chaotic modulation network ("Quantussy").
The Cocoquantus uses discrete silicon chips without flash memory for its dual 8-bit digital delay lines, allowing real-time clock speed modulation of captured audio. Each of the two Obelisk delay sections features dedicated high-impedance piezo, XLR microphone, and line-level synth inputs. Performers can dynamically manipulate recorded audio using manual Speed and Affect controls, Verso/Inverso VCA input and feedback paths, integrated "Dolby" silence filters, and logic-driven Flip and Skip trigger nodes. A dedicated sample switch holds captured loops indefinitely while powered.
The central Quantussy engine consists of five interconnected oscillators arranged in a pentagon geometry. Operating from slow LFO cycles up to audio rates, the Quantussy generates non-repeating, organic chaos to modulate the dual delay engines, creating evolving textures, rhythmic pitch shifts, and self-generating drone soundscapes.
