Bastl Instruments Crust Complex Drum Voice

Bastl Instruments Crust is a feature-packed Eurorack drum voice that serves up everything from booming kicks to sizzling hats and metallic snares. Designed as the drum complement to Bastl’s Pizza oscillator, Crust shares the same hardware architecture but shifts focus entirely to percussive synthesis.

Crust offers two main sound layers — TONE and NOISE — that blend together to form rich and dynamic drum voices. The TONE layer is built on two oscillators with deep pitch controls and four shaping algorithms: FM, FM2, RING, and DUAL. With controls for octave, detune, sweep, semitone, and fine-tuning, you can dial in punchy kicks, bassy thumps, or complex tone bursts with ease.

The NOISE layer offers four distinct algorithms: WHITE, BIT, CLAP, and METALMETALIC — each with their own character and a filter to shape the results. A dedicated LAYER fader allows for expressive blending between TONE and NOISE sources, both by envelope and volume.

The ENV knob adjusts both decay and attack behavior, while a CV input and dedicated envelope output let you shape dynamics further. A Timbre section with FILTER, CLIP, and SHAPE controls introduces more tone shaping: from clean transients to saturated distortion and body-enhancing bass.

With extensive CV control, including velocity, trigger, V/Oct tracking, and a freely assignable CTRL knob and CV input, Crust is deeply playable. It’s capable of everything from sharp digital zaps to thick, analog-style percussion.
