Dual AC-Coupled Ring Modulator

The RS-610N contains two independent, high-precision ring modulators designed for clean sum-and-difference frequency multiplication with minimal carrier bleed.

Based on the Analog Devices AD633 integrated circuit, this module multiplies two AC-coupled audio signals to generate classic metallic sidebands, robotic vocal tones, and rich harmonic timbres. It updates the classic RS-20 design into a dual-channel module, doubling your processing density in a single system location.

In use, the module shines at producing metallic percussive sounds, bell-like inharmonic bells, and classic sci-fi voice processing without the high bleed-through common in vintage transformer-based ring modulators. Because the inputs accept signals up to +/-10 V, you can feed raw high-amplitude oscillator outputs directly into the inputs without unwanted clipping or audio distortion.

Its AC-coupled inputs filter out DC offsets, ensuring that carrier and modulator signals interact purely at audio rates. While this design delivers transparent, high-fidelity sideband generation, it also means the module cannot multiply static DC control voltages for slow modulation duties.

  • Two independent ring modulation channels in a single module
  • Low-bleed circuit design built around high-precision AD633 integrated circuits
  • AC-coupled inputs tuned specifically for audio-rate sideband processing
  • High headroom inputs and outputs accepting up to +/-10 V signal swings
  • Direct creation of sum and difference frequencies for bell, metallic, and vocal effects
  • Standard Eurorack mounting and dual-bus power compatibility
