The RS95N is a proudly British VCO with wave shaping, and it is unapologetically the same instrument it has always been. No reinvention, no trend chasing. Just a refined, great sounding oscillator that continues to be handmade by Steve Gay in Cornwall, exactly as it should be.
Originally developed from the classic RS90 and RS95e oscillators, the RS95N builds on that lineage with a number of thoughtful improvements while keeping the character fully intact. Sonically, it delivers rich, weighty tones with a distinctly British flavour, often associated with classic Aphex Twin style basslines and bold analogue textures.
One of the defining features is the lockable ten-turn frequency potentiometer, which allows for extremely precise tuning and delicate detuning. This makes the RS95N particularly strong in systems where stability and fine control matter just as much as character.
The oscillator provides dedicated sine, triangle, and pulse outputs, but its real depth comes from the integrated wave shaper. The triangle wave can be continuously transformed into ramp or saw shapes, either manually or via CV. When the triangle output is unused, it becomes a modulation input for sine wave symmetry, a technique inspired by classic EMS designs. Pulse width is adjustable via knob and CV, and a soft sync input is included for tighter harmonic interaction.
Thanks to its dual bus concept and wide mounting holes, the RS95N integrates easily into both Analogue Systems and Doepfer standard Eurorack cases. It tracks 1V per octave accurately and includes a dedicated linear FM input for expressive modulation.
This is a no nonsense oscillator with deep musicality, proven design, and a clear identity. Handmade, unchanged at its core, and still doing exactly what it does best.
