Mikrophonie v3 is the latest evolution of the beloved contact mic module from Music Thing Modular, redesigned to include the best elements of Mutable Instruments' discontinued Ears module — and push them even further. Now with a more powerful amplifier, flexible input options, and deeper sonic potential, this compact module lets you bring the physical world directly into your modular system.

Built around a high-quality audio preamp and integrated piezo contact mic, Mikrophonie v3 transforms vibrations, touches, and scrapes into rich sonic textures and voltage control. The included panel scratchpad offers a satisfying tactile surface for immediate interaction, and the external input allows you to process any contact mic, DIY piezo pickup, or line-level signal.

The improved preamp provides a wider gain range than Ears, allowing for cleaner or grittier responses depending on how hard you push it. Meanwhile, the envelope follower and gate detector open up new CV-generation possibilities — perfect for creating responsive triggers or shaping modulations from acoustic inputs. All CV outputs respond to both the internal mic and the external input.

This DIY kit includes everything you need to build the module, including two front panel variations — letting you choose whether the scratchplate sits at the top or bottom. When available, the kit may also include an optional high-quality LeafAudio external contact mic, perfect for field recordings or intricate sound design work.
